Paul Schreiner

Paul Schreiner started Jiu-Jitsu in the late 90’s in Santa Cruz, Ca with Claudio França and Garth Taylor. He trained and competed extensively in Brazil during the early 2000s and was one of the few American athletes to podium at the World Championships held in Brazil. He has taught Jiu-Jitsu for over 20 years including 14 years at Marcelo Garcia Academy in NYC. Paul was a part of the MGJJ coaching team that produced the Brown belt “dream team” and the first academy to have athletes win the Black belt weight and absolute division in the World Championships in the men’s and women’s divisions in the same year (Bernardo Faria, Dominyka Obelenyte). Prior to teaching at MGJJ NYC Paul taught at American Kickboxing Academy alongside Dave Camarillo, founded Kaijin MMA with Garth Taylor, and started a Jiu-Jitsu program for Apple at their Cupertino headquarters. Paul is known as a focused and impactful teacher and coach who refers to his teaching methodology as “non-denominational.” He remains passionate about teaching and training Jiu-Jitsu as a daily practice..

MARCELO GARCIA ASSOCIATION

Known for his technical prowess and creativity, it is difficult to overstate Marcelo Garcia’s influence on modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling. The techniques and tactics of contemporary Jiu-Jitsu at the highest levels – especially without the Gi, have been revolutionized by Marcelo’s innovations and approach such that they are now considered the foundations of the sport. Here at Frogtown Jiu–Jitsu we borrow from Marcelo and teach BJJ that is straightforward and focused on dominant positioning and submission. At Frogtown Jiu–Jitsu, we push students to experience, explore and create an expression of the gentle art that is unique to them without losing sight of its essence, a fight that begins with two people standing and ends when one submits.
