Known for his technical prowess and creativity, it is difficult to overstate Marcelo Garcia’s influence on modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling. The techniques and tactics of contemporary Jiu-Jitsu at the highest levels – especially without the Gi, have been revolutionized by Marcelo’s innovations and approach such that they are now considered the foundations of the sport. Here at Frogtown Jiu–Jitsu we borrow from Marcelo and teach BJJ that is straightforward and focused on dominant positioning and submission. We push students to experience, explore and create an expression of the gentle art that is unique to them without losing sight of its essence, a fight that begins with two people standing and ends when one submits.
